About Me
What inspires me?
I am inspired by animals, gardening and home décor.
Painted Furniture
You’ve heard it said, “If it stands still, I’ll paint it.” This is so true from old giant satellite dishes to tables left on the sidewalk. I’m the lady with the 7 foot cabinet sticking out of my trunk. Furniture is useful, but I want to make something interesting and creative that others will enjoy having in their homes. My furniture is colorful and wildly decorated. I put checker boards on tables, colorful flowers on cabinets, a giraffe on a baby dresser and chairs of all sorts.
Watercolor Animals
As I look around my studio, I notice most of my watercolor paintings are of animals. I think the reason I am infatuated by animals is related to my childhood. Unlike other girls, I preferred the outdoors with my dog, Shadow and my horse Sandy. They were my best friends on the 40-acre field I lived in the middle of with no neighbors nearby. My wise friends and I had many adventures and conversations.
Watercolor Flowers
Of course, my watercolor studio is also filled with flowers. Gardening brings me great joy. I just like dirt. I like the feel and smell of it. Watching plants grow is a miracle. Irises are my favorite flower to paint, and peaches are my favorite fruit. Recently, I grew a hydrangea. It took three years for it to flower. When those big, beautiful, blue flowers appeared I had to paint it. That painting is more than a picture of a hydrangea, it’s me beating my chest as If I created it!
Garden Art
My daughter loves birds. She feeds her birds daily. She sprinkles quail food on top of her wall and these silly, clown birds hop along the wall with their top knots bopping and eat like little pigs. I love to watch them. I’ve tried feeding the birds who visit my yard without success. The squirrels beat them to it. So, I thought maybe a post would keep the squirrels away. My squirrels are gymnastic geniuses and steal the bird food regardless of where I put it. But the birdhouse posts are very popular with my customers so I continue to make them. They are cute and whimsical and so much fun to paint. People like to put them on their porches to welcome visitors. Some, even get birds to visit.
